Drawbridge mentality

I woke up this morning with a very bad feeling about the immediate future. I hope I feel a bit more positive later on. Surely it could not be possible to let the whole of Greece slowly starve to death in this day and age? When New York City declared itself to be bankrupt, everyone just carried on as normal, so I assume that all debts were just wiped off and Wall Street started afresh the next morning.

It wasn't that long ago when every bad thing that happened here was blamed on the Dutch. The world has become a lot smaller since then. Even farmers are no longer able to earn an honest day's pay for an honest day's work.

  1. Greeks will still wave their arms about, still drink plenty of retsina, and still do Zorba-style dancing on saturdays. The only difference will be that they'll do it with drachmas.

  2. I' m afraid I have had to adopt a drawbridge mentality to the state of the world in general over the past year or so Tom.
I can do nothing about any of it - the inequalities, the huge amounts of money some people have and the absolute poverty of others, the problems of illegal immigrants who scrape together money and then often die crossing the Mediterranean, the sight of these young men trying the board lorries to cross the channel - looking for a job and a better life, the slaughter in the Middle East - there is no end to it. I have to pull up the drawbridge in order to survive.

  4. The big folks will have to work it out while the rest of us keep up the daily grind.Perhaps when we are all burning money for heat, like post-war Germany, the revolution will come.

  5. I just done another post on the same subject. It all pales into nothing compared with the death of Meg though.
